The air between two thin layers of stainless steel that make up the outer container of Mr. Bento is removed to create a vacuum, which keeps the food insulated. As long as you follow the recommended instructions when packing your lunch jar, the temperature of the food can remain hot or cold at least for a few hours.

Mr. Bento is a round lunch jar made of stainless steel, with four individual food bowls for storage of food. It has a non-insulated plastic top cover with side clasps. The four food bowls are stacked in a certain order to fit the jar nicely. The bowls are microwaveable, but not their lids.

The most bottom is the soup bowl. It has a gasket screw-on top with a small pressure vent, and is specially designed for soup or other liquids to prevent them from spilling. The second from bottom bowl is the main bowl. It is the biggest bowl of all and has an insulated top as well. This compartment is perfect for rice or noodles or porridge. The third from bottom bowl is the large side bowl. This has a plastic pop up top, and is meant for side dishes that can be kept at room temperature. The top most bowl is the small side bowl. It also has a plastic pop up top and is best used for snacks like chips and nuts or fruits.

The lunch jar comes in a neutral silver color, so it is suitable for both kids and adults (yes, men too!). Each set either comes with chopsticks or a forked spoon with cover. It is easy to transport with a carrying bag, which has additional pockets to fit in an extra muesli bar or sauce packets.
